The Governor Bradstreet was built by Button and Blake in 1861 and delivered new to Galion, Ohio. It was originally named Niagara #1 and bears the serial # 555. In 1903 the engine was sold to North Andover, Massachusetts for the sum of $900 and it's name changed to Governor Bradstreet.

The engine attend it's first muster on July 3, 1905 at a muster held in Lawrence, Ma., it pumped a stream of 190' 5" finishing 13 of 20. On August 13, 1905 it entered it's first league Tournament at Manchester, NH and finished a disappointing 15th of 30 with a shot of  180' 3 1/8". At the conclusion of the 1905 season the engine was sent to the American-Lafrance Co. The completely overhauled the engine and also added a seat.

What ever was done at the factory, it worked. On September 3, 1906 at a muster in Nashua, New Hampshire the Gov. Bradstreet threw it's longest stream to that point 242' 4 1/2". This record has been broken a couple of times since then with the latest being in 1997 when the engine threw it's current record stream of 261' 3".

In 1949 the Gov. Bradstreet was completely overhauled and 1950 was one of it's finest years winning 7 of 9 musters. In 1951 the button engine would win it's first N.E.S.V.F.L. Class A championship, a fete it would have to wait 35 years to do it again.

In 1986 the Gov. Bradstreet once again one the N.E.S.V.F.L. Class A Championship. It would go on to win 5 more Championships in the 1990's including 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999. Even more impressive is the Gov. Bradstreet's record in winning parade prizes. It has won first place at just about every muster parade held in the 1990's. The engine has won close to $30,000 in muster competition one of only a handful of engines ever to do so.
